What is Art ?
In its rawest definition, Art is " the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination." which is quite applicable in understanding its basic composition. Although, Art is a mode that enables the wide based expression of the human condition, and nature through time, place and space. It can be alluded to through poetry, painting, sculpting or animations as long as it communicates a certain aspect or idea. One aspect that I truly love about Art is its ability to always useful in our growing society.
Why is Art important ?
|
I Art inspires individuals to act as it unifies us, thereby having the authoritative influence on how we come to perceive the things around us. Secondly , Art enables individuals to express what is important to them. We all have a deep need to express ourselves, but in this fast-paced and divided society we are not taught how to do that, therefore enabling art acts as an outlet on how we stimulate our creativity for a certain cause. To denote this importance, I will make reference to Louis Armstrong. Regardless of the hate he received from white-supremist groups he continued to present his music to the world as he used it as a way to express himself. This became the impetus for fellow African-Americans to stand up for what they felt was there’s as they were restricted within their own societies to express themselves.

To allude to this importance I will make reference to Steve Cutts “Zombie” painting. He strongly denotes the state of our society through the portrayal of Zombies. Zombies only have one objective, and this utilisation portrays how the media has become societies main objective thereby making us unable to understand what takes place around us, hence the dark and damaged background he portrays in his painting.

How has Art helped Shape Society ?
Art impacts society as it instills values, changes opinions and redefinines experiences across time and space. One of the biggest impacts Art has had on society, is the propaganda generated from it. It encourages individuals to participate in a certain cause that they feel they can carry out efficiently. Secondly, Art changes the way we come to see the world in a more elaborate manner. Colleges such as San Diego State University incorporate virtual reality into their lessons to expose students to a physical study of what they are learning. This enables students to know more about the world and have easy access to information. Additionally, Art acts as a catalyst on how we present our ideas. We live in a society where it is hard to present your ideas seen that there are so many problems taking place , that we allow ourselves to be blinded by them. For example the environmental crisis in taking tow on people home’s families and ecosystems but it is simply being ignored by individuals that are driven by success or refuse to accept that it is taking place. Although, through the artistic representation of videos, painting some way art can change the world. It will provide a neutral environment at which individuals have a safe place for them to exchange discussions on how else we can change the world. It challenges the given and problematic views of the world and enhances them through. “ Art helps us identify with one another and expands our notion of we- from the local to the global.” Lastly. Art has the power to voice over any government or supreme force that prevents individuals within a society from expressing themselves.
